Bursary 2026
The Dyslexia Help UK bursary has been created to help children and young people with longstanding literacy difficulties where the cost of a diagnostic dyslexia assessment may otherwise be difficult for their family to afford.
A limited number of bursaries are available towards the cost of an online diagnostic dyslexia assessment with Dyslexia Help UK.
How does the bursary work?
If awarded a bursary, families will contribute £150, £250 or £350 towards the cost of the assessment.
When applying, you will be asked to select the highest contribution you can afford. You will also be asked to provide information about your financial and household circumstances and evidence to support your application.
Who can apply?
Applications can be made for a child or young person who:

has longstanding literacy difficulties;

has not previously had a diagnostic dyslexia assessment; and

does not have funding available for an assessment from their school, local authority or another organisation.
Only one child or young person from a household can apply in each bursary round.
You will be asked to provide evidence of the literacy difficulties. This may include information about current or previous literacy support or intervention, information from a teacher, SENDCO, specialist teacher or other relevant professional, or previous dyslexia screening.
Financial circumstances
The bursary is intended to help families who would find it difficult to meet the full cost of a diagnostic dyslexia assessment.
The application asks about household financial circumstances, including means-tested benefits and other indicators of low income, employment and household circumstances. Evidence will be required for any financial criteria identified in the application.
How are bursaries awarded?
Bursary places are limited. Applications will be reviewed using the information and evidence provided and bursaries are awarded at the discretion of Dyslexia Help UK.
Meeting the criteria for consideration does not guarantee that a bursary will be awarded.
Any bursary awarded is subject to the usual requirements for a diagnostic dyslexia assessment being met.
If an application is successful, further information will be collected as part of the normal assessment process before an assessment is confirmed.
Apply
Applications for the current bursary round are open until 31st October 2026. Applications may close earlier if a high number of applications are received.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome by 14th November 2026.
Bursaries cannot be transferred to another person and have no cash value. If a bursary is awarded, the assessment must be booked within two months of the offer.
